Here is a bit of info on using hash tags on Facebook from guest writer Callie Goode.
Hey Everyone! In my monthly blog for June I wanted to discuss the potential impact the introduction of hash-tags to Facebook could have on small-business marketers. As I’m sure most of you know by now, earlier this month Facebook made it possible for its users to incorporate hash tags into status messages. Although it’s too soon to tell how this new feature will influence the action on Facebook, experts remain quite optimistic. Some point out that the new hash tag feature could hold the key to the “reach” problem being dealt with by Facebook marketers in recent months. Others contend that Facebook has witnessed the huge success hash-tags have made of Twitter, and they want to capitalize on the same momentum. What are your thoughts? Will it make Facebook fly high or become a failure? I guess time will tell.
So what if you aren’t familiar with how hash-tags work, here are a couple tricks I have picked up along the way. First, if you aren’t certain what tags you should use in your posts, if you go to Twitter Search, you can type in phrases and see what hash-tags are currently trending for those subjects. Also, try to make each post with 3 or 4 hash-tags with keywords that make your posts more “searchable” and try to diversify your hash-tags as much as possible so your posts can be exposed to a broad audience base.
Well, that is all for today, but I hope this has inspired some of you to incorporate hash-tags as a regular part of your marketing strategy, if you don’t already.
