Promote your business by getting the word out. The first step of business promotion is to do this consistantly, with longevity and consciously. You can’t rely on other people to do it for you, no matter how great your product or service is.
The second step of business promotion is that like every other aspect of your business, you must budget. Business promotion doesn’t have to be expensive. Here are a few ways to promote your business; Most of these will only cost you some time.
1. Include something in all outgoing pieces of paper, letters, mailers, flyers, and business cards etc… and every electronic document as business promotion to bring awareness to what you do. Don’t hesitate or be embarrassed about promoting your business. It you dont tell they won’t know. I stamped all outgoing mail with our company name and website.
2. Writing articles on topics related to your business expertise is an excellent business promotion technique. Blogs are good, being a guest writer in a magazine or newspaper (print or online).
3. If you’re an Internet user, spend some of your online time on business promotion. Use Social Media, others Facebook pages or in groups on Linked In. Or find a conversation that fits your expertise and chime in.
4. Give out freebies as business promotion. If you have items you can give away that has your contact info on them, then by all means pass them out at functions, networking opportunities etc…
No matter what your business there are multiple ways to get your message out, that are inexpensive and effective. You have to have a commitment of how you want to do it and how much time you have to do it.
Sitting around waiting for someone to walk in the door or for the phone to ring is not an option. With today’s thinking… you have to go after what you want. And you have to be convincing when you do it.
You may have the best product or service since the butter knife however if you are not letting people know, how will they find you?
Whether you find free advertising / marketing, inexpensive advertising / marketing or full blown coverage that cost a fortune, you need to be doing something. Just make sure that “that something” is done over a long period of time and is affordable to your budget. Once a contract is signed you are liable for it regardless of the circumstances, and you don’t want a black mark on your credit for a mistake that could have been prevented.
