Conventional Advertising vs Internet Advertising

For nearly a decade, radio has failed at conveying reasons why consumers should continue to do Radio Advertising.

The degradation of what’s coming out of the speakers has pushed audiences away from a transmitted signal. Long commercial breaks, repetitive songs, ad nauseam, and piped-in voice tracks have made radio irrelevant to the local community and at the same time the radio industry keeps pushing its localism. The listeners are not stupid.

Advertisers aren’t accepting what’s happening with the broadcast side of radio either. Revenues are slightly better than a year ago and those numbers were only marginally better than two years ago – a time when profits fell upwards of 20%! Radio isn’t clawing its way back now; it’s merely softening the loss. However, Internet Radio Stations have gained Millions of Advertising Dollars from companies that are seeing where the future is going to.  

Track what’s happening, as I do, and you’ll see there’s a definitive swing towards the use of Internet Media vs Newsprint, Magazines and terrestrial radio stations by the audience and advertisers. Look at how the radio industry is responding, and you’ll see awful attempts at duplicating what’s been successful for new media companies, always with an old-style promotional push.

Advertisers, they aren’t looking for media that reach 93% of the population once each week. They want venues that produce results and have facts to back it up, which makes them turn to Companies on the Internet for solutions and answers.

Musicians, those local folks who used to knock at the local radio station’s door for airplay, have taken their songs online and are finding that’s where people are going to hear new music. Live Streaming Internet Radio Stations are good venues for bands needing airtime.

The good old-boys controlling the radio industry, they aren’t about to change anything because they’re too close to retirement to benefit from change, and the new technology that they would have to learn is not something they want to be involved in, nor do they want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to hire in young adults to make the conversion, update the equipment, get involved in social media, mobile marketing and conversion of terrestrial stations to Internet Streams.  So they’re content with ruining the business before taking their bucks and exiting. How sad.
